your
Impact
Switzerland is renowned formany things, but hardly for its orchestral music. The famous classical composerstend to come from Austria, Germany, Italy or France. But what about classicalmusic from Switzerland? Well, the good news is that it really exists. The evenbetter news is that the Swiss Orchestra is breathing new life into it!
Numerous Swiss works havebeen unjustly forgotten, even when their composers were once highly regarded. There's the late-Romantic composer Hans Huber, who was active in Basel, or EdouardDupuy of Neuchâtel who was a contemporary of Beethoven. Hermann Suter, FranzXaver Schnyder von Wartensee and Johann Carl Eschmann were all important namesin their own time, but are hardly ever heard today.
This is where the SwissOrchestra Society comes in. It's committed to promoting Switzerland's classicalmusic traditions and to making the Swiss orchestral repertoire accessible againto a wider audience. This is why the Swiss Orchestra was founded. It comprisestop-class musicians and since 2019 has toured across Switzerland together withfamous soloists. It unites the highest possible quality with an infectiouspassion for music.
